The Simi Valley Youth Council is an advisory board to the City Council on issues affecting youth in the community and is comprised of 21 members and up to three alternates. Each high school and middle school is represented on the Youth Council, as well as the Community at Large.
Membership on the Youth Council is open to residents of the City of Simi Valley who are in 7th through 12th grade. Members may be enrolled in schools outside of Simi Valley. The current Youth Council term began on July 1, 2017, and will conclude on June 30, 2018. Applications to serve on the Youth Council are accepted year-round, and successful applicants are appointed by the City Council each June. For applications or more information, call (805) 522-4473. The 17th annual Youth Summit will be held on March 16, 2018. High school students interested in attending are encouraged to check back in January 2018 to register for this free event. Space is limited to only 170 participants. Youth are also encouraged to sign up for the Youth Council e-notification to receive updates and information related to Youth Council activities, including a notice when the 2018 Youth Summit application is live. Each year, the Youth Council hosts a Youth Summit annual leadership conference. Youth Summit participants are inspired by a motivational speaker, participate in team building and leadership exercises, learn the importance of community involvement, and share lunch while discussing community issues and ideas with local dignitaries. The event takes place on a school day. It is recognized as an educational activity by the Simi Valley Unified School District and is approved as school business with prior teacher notification.
The 16th annual Youth Summit was held on Friday, March 24, 2017, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. More than 160 students attended from a variety of high schools. Participants discuss teen issues, develop leadership skills, and get motivated to explore their untapped potential, all while contributing to their community.

The Youth Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the City Hall Community Room at 5:00 p.m., September through June. All meetings of the Youth Council are open to the public.
